Opportunity Snapshot

In this position you will have the opportunity to make both immediate and long term impacts as you assume leadership of an outside sales program that is just a couple of steps away from realizing significant potential. Leveraging your management and motivation skills, you'll help a small team go after low hanging fruit, and also take the lead on landing and managing major accounts. You'll join a strong management team within a well-run, successful, multi-million dollar company, and your success in this role could set you up to pursue career paths within our company or our parent corporation, a global industry leader.

Your mission will be to assess our current sales program and lead positive change, particularly with regard to ensuring we have a driven and ambitious sales team with solid product knowledge. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have significant sales experience, including manufacturing; experience selling custom manufactured products is strongly preferred. You'll need solid leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to grow sales and coach a team, as well as the ability to manage high-level accounts. We're looking for a high energy individual with enthusiasm and professional maturity.

While we are not at liberty to disclose our company name until you have been fully qualified, we have been manufacturing quality marking products (stamps, signage, and more) and providing outstanding service for over 100 years.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A bachelor's degree; we also will consider non-degreed candidates with significant relevant experience.
  • A track record of success in consultative B2B sales.
  • Solid experience managing outside/field sales representatives.
  • A demonstrated ability to create and deliver presentations that motivate and persuade customers.
  • Experience tailoring sales to meet customers' needs.
  • A proven ability to discover ways to further penetrate existing accounts.
  • The ability to team with other managers (customer service, production, etc).
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; familiarity with sales software is a plus.
  • Strong initiative and drive.

What's in It for You

Autonomy and support -- while you'll collaborate with other areas of the company, we'll look to you to achieve your objectives with a degree of independence. We'll provide support when you need it and "elbow room" when you don't.

High impact -- the potential is there in the market; we just need a solid leader to help the team develop the skills and motivation to go get it. You also will go after big name, big money accounts yourself.

Great work environment -- we promote genuine family-style warmth in our culture, ensuring that our people take pride in their contributions and enjoy coming to work.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a generous salary and bonus incentive program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package.

More About Your Role

You will report to and work closely with our General Manager. In a nutshell you will divide your time among three key areas:

Directing the efforts of our outside sales representatives in the Seattle area, keeping them focused on acquiring new customers/business and servicing existing customers. For the most part the reps focus on small and medium businesses. We want our sales reps to be successful and you will need to be their guide to that success. While we'll look to you to recommend areas where we can improve based on your assessment, we expect these areas will include:
  • Enhancing the reps' product knowledge; our products are true one-off custom jobs, and while the products are not complex, our portfolio is broad and there is a good deal of as-yet-unrealized potential for multiple product, solution-oriented sales.
  • Coaching them with regard to growing their territory and increasing sales, including everything from developing strategy to simply practicing better follow through habits.
  • Ensuring they present a professional demeanor and are able to build long-term trust-based relationships.
  • Acting as a resource, supporting them with more challenging sales, and helping them hit the home runs.
This will include spending time in the field with your reps, which will help you understand the unique challenges and opportunities of each territory.

Personally focusing on growing accounts with large businesses, developing and implementing strategies and tactics to land, manage, and penetrate these accounts. Basically every business uses the products we sell, so your challenge will be to identify those that hold the greatest promise, such as banks and insurance companies for hand stamps, manufacturers for labels, and others. You also will assume ownership of existing large house accounts that require a high finesse touch.

With regard to both your team and your own sales, you'll promote a consultative approach and look for ways to penetrate existing accounts. For the most part everyone in our industry produces the same quality products, so the distinguishing factors are service and added value; you and your team will need to be adept at identifying customers' hot buttons (inventory management, fast turn around, etc) and developing solutions that address them.

Coordinating with other department managers to make sure we meet our customers' expectations. Our business is almost entirely driven by details, and you'll make sure the sales reps get detailed, accurate information up front to the greatest extent possible. You'll also promote a strong relationship between Sales and our Customer Service team, Production, and other areas of the company. This will include coordinating with other departments to deliver programs, such as creating customized web portals to enhance and expedite customer ordering. Of course, you also will prepare sales reports and handle other administrative activities.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will model, for the sales team, a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and urgency, and promote the simple but powerful understanding that if sales aren't growing, we need to do something differently. You also will take a proactive approach to learning our business, products, and processes -- unless you are coming directly from our industry, you'll have a period of hands-on learning.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
